Ultra-Narrow 200 Hz Linewidth Fibre Lasers now on offer through Elliot Scientific...
9th February 2010
Elliot Scientific is offering the Orbits Lightwave "Ethernal SlowLight" ultra-narrow (200 Hz) linewidth 1064 nm and 1550 nm fibre lasers, in powers up to 200 mW, to OEMs and researchers in the UK and Ireland. Powers of 2 W, 5 W and 10 W are coming soon. The systems are housed in hermetically-sealed athermal modules that minimise frequency drift with respect to temperature and dispense with the need for energy consuming temperature control. This novel packaging technology also greatly reduces susceptibility to shock and vibration by five orders of magnitude.

Orbits Lightwave's breakthrough technology, the "virtual ring" laser oscillator, enables travelling wave and slow light oscillation in a compact, linear, all-fibre cavity to realise higher power, ultra low FM and AM noise performance, and a higher sidemode suppression ratio. It also effectively increases the cavity lifetime.

Elliot Scientific opens up exciting new capabilities with the introduction of two products from CRAIC Technologies...
4th February 2010
CRAIC Technologies have started the year with two products designed to increase the microspectrophotometry capabilities of researchers and manufacturers. The new Thermal Stage enables the analysis of transmission, reflectance or fluorescence spectra of microscopic samples under conditions of extreme cold or heat. Operating in the UV-visible-NIR regions, samples can be cooled to as low as -196° or heated up to as high as 600 °C. The same system also allows for atmospheric control of the sample environment: a feature that will open up additional avenues of research in many fields such as biotechnology, materials science and nanotechnology.

With Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLED) increasing their share of the displays and light source market, CRAIC Technologies are introducing the QDI 302 microscope spectrophotometer to measure and compare the spectral output, intensity and colour consistency of each of the microscopic pixels commonly found in OLED devices. Designed to be attached to a microscope or probe station, the QDI 302 can be used to measure the colour and intensity of each pixel of a OLED display or map a whole device. The speed of the QDI 302 allows for entire OLED displays to be examined quickly and accurately. This will ensure the consistency of both colour and intensity across the entire device as well as from device to device.

New, small core High Power Multimode mid-infrared fibre from Irphotonics....
3rd February 2010
IRphotonics has launched a new, small core High Power Multimode mid-infrared fibre for use in Medical, Industrial and R&D applications.

The H100 dual-clad mid-IR fibre offers a spectral transmission from 0.3 to 4.5 µm with low attenuation and no spectral absorption peak. Its 100 µm core enables high power handling over a small bend radius from a wide range of lasers such as Er:Yag (2.94 µm), Semiconductor Lasers (QCL), Solid State Lasers or Tunable MWIR lasers (OPO).

The new fibre opens the way for a whole new range of applications not possible before with energy delivery in the medium wavelength infra-red.

The H100 mid-IR fibre is available now to customers in the UK and Ireland through Elliot Scientific, and is offered bare or in a patchcord with high power connectors.

New E3500 optical tweezer system with QPD...
22nd January 2010
Elliot Scientific has recently introduced a new version of the E3500 computer-controlled multiple-trap optical tweezer system with E4100 QPD (Quadrant Photo Detector) force measurement facility. The system utilises two fibre-coupled lasers: one for trapping and the other for the probe beam.

The tweezer was built into a high-end Nikon microscope and a similar system will be demonstrated by our tweezer team at February's Biophysical Society's 54th Annual Meeting in San Francisco. At January's Photonics West, we will reveal our Optical Tweezer Roadmap. A presentation that will detail the future development of this product range, showing the new technologies and applications ahead.
