Spatially resolved electro- and photo-luminescence measurements (µEL and µPL) are standard characterisation techniques used in the manufacturing process of optoelectronic devices.

During development, these measurements are used to optimise performance, and then later to ensure the quality of the devices in process control.

They are also important tools for lifetime and failure studies as µEL and µPL both measure the luminescence decay spectrally and spatially. This application note covers such studies of a blue, light-emitting diode (LED).
