A variety of capabilities

Tristan Laboratory SQUID Systems

Tristan laboratory SQUID systems are extremely sensitive instruments designed to detect small electromagnetic signals.

By combining SQUID electronics with various special purpose probes and auxiliary electronics, laboratory systems having a variety of capabilities are made available, providing the ability to measure properties such as:

  • Magnetic Fields and Gradients
  • Magnetic Moments and Susceptibilities
  • Electric and Magnetic Fluctuations
  • DC Voltage, Resistance and Current
  • AC resistance, self and mutual-inductance

Tristan standard systems are listed below. Each system comprises: [1] dc SQUID Electronics; [2] Cryogenic Cable/Probe of standard length (one metre); [3] either LTS or HTS dc SQUID sensor; [4] ancillary equipment including Model CC-60 six metre fibre-optic composite connecting cable, accessory package and user manual.

Basic Measuring Systems

Model BMS-H is an HTS SQUID system capable of measuring magnetic fields smaller than 50 fT (50 x 10-15 tesla). Typically, this system is used in conjunction with an NMD series dewar.

  • Model iMC-303 Cryogenic Control Unit
  • Model iFL-301-H Flux-Locked Loop
  • Model SP Standard Cryogenic Cable
  • Model HTM-8 HTS dc SQUID

Model BMS-L is an LTS SQUID system capable of measuring small electric currents with a noise level less than 10-12 Ampere/√Hz. With a simple pickup coil, it also can be used for the detection of magnetic fields as small as 1 fT.

  • Model iMC-303 Cryogenic Control Unit
  • Model iFL-301-L Flux-Locked Loop
  • Model SP Standard Cryogenic Cable
  • Model LSQ/20 LTS dc SQUID

Model PMS Picovolt Measuring System

In addition to measurements possible with the BMS system, this system provides a cryogenic dc voltage amplifier with a gain of 108 and a rms noise of less than 10-13 Volts/√Hz is used for measurements of very small voltages and resistances.

  • Model iMC-303 Cryogenic Control Unit
  • Model iFL-301-L Flux-Locked Loop
  • Model MFP Multi-Function Probe
  • Model LSQ/20 LTS dc SQUID

Add-On Channels

  • Model LA1 - LTS Single Channel Add-on SQUID System
  • Model HA1 - HTS Single Channel Add-on SQUID System
