Rugged Monitoring is a new company formed by veteran fibre optic engineers. This industry leading team has over 100 years of combined experience, and is committed to delivering customisable fibre optic based sensing solutions for challenging applications.
Precision, reliability, and high performance are Rugged Monitoring priorities.
Fibre optic temperature sensors are highly responsive, intrinsically safe and immune to external influences such as electromagnetic fields, corrosion, and vibration. Rugged Monitoring offers several instruments for temperature measurement, and seven types of sensor.
L201 Series Monitors
The L201 is a compact 2 to 4 channel fibre optic temperature monitor designed for use in a wide range of demanding applications. The instrument has a measuring range of -269 °C to +300 °C with complete immunity to RFI, EMI, microwave and high voltages. This makes it the optimal choice for environments where extreme conditions limit conventional temperature sensor/monitor systems.
Compatible with a wide range of fibre optic temperature sensors from both Rugged Monitoring and other companies, the instrument is based on proven GaAs technology with inbuilt redundancy. It also does not require calibration and has been designed to offer simplicity of use with plug and play operation. See more via the Video tab above.
The multi-channel L201-X (shown right) collects data from up to 8 sensors (expandable to 256) and has been designed to integrate easily into existing systems via serial comms or analogue ports. The 201-X monitor is supplied with Rugged Connect: software designed with the needs of test platform or industrial process monitoring integration needs in mind.
H201 Series Monitors
Like its desktop counterpart, the new H201 offers portable battery-powered temperature monitoring with complete immunity to RFI, EMI, microwave and high voltage environments. The H201 Fiber optic monitor combines reliability and user friendly interface in the monitor and software. It is a multi-channel fiber optic temperature monitor with precision measurement for factory testing, industrial and laboratory applications. It can collect data from up to 8 sensors (expandable to 256), and has a measuring range of -271°C to +300 °C. The system is based on proven GaAs technology and designed for Plug and Play operation. Its immunity to extreme test conditions and harsh environment makes H201 a default choice for temperature testing and measurement.

O201 Series OEM Modules
Rugged Monitoring has also released the O201 as a compact din-rail mounted standalone module for OEMs that can be easily installed in equipment that requires fibre optic temperature sensing. This multi-channel temperature monitor is available in 2, 4, 6 or 8 channels. Up to thirty-two O201 units can be daisy-chained via Modbus, CANBUS or DNP3.0 to construct a 256 channel monitoring system.
The O201 has a single 'system fault' relay, and an option for an integrated analogue card (up to 8 channels) for outputting measurements as current / voltage levels. See more via the Video tab above.
T301 Series Monitors
The T301 series is a rugged 8 to 24 channel fibre optic temperature monitor designed for use in environments where extreme conditions limit conventional temperature sensor/monitor systems.
The instrument has a measurement range of -269 °C to +300 °C; complete immunity to RFI, EMI, microwave and high voltages; and is compatible with a wide range of GaAs fibre optic temperature sensors from both Rugged Monitoring and other companies.
The T301 is designed for data collection and ease of integration into existing systems. As such it is equipped with an RS-485 interface as standard. Optional interfaces include: RS-232, Gigabit Optical Ethernet, or simple 0-10 V analogue outputs.
The supplied software, which is capable of reading up to 256 channels simultaneously, has been written with the needs of industrial test and process monitoring in mind.
R501 Series Monitors
The R501 has been developed to offer an upgradeable and flexible solution for the changing needs of customers. This Rugged Monitoring system delivers real-time monitoring of up to 256 fibre-optic and other sensors for measurement of temperature, pressure, AC current, AC voltage, DC current, DC voltage and more. Binary Inputs etc.
The R501 utilises different types of input/output (IO) modules within its chassis. These can include binary, analogue, and digital inputs, or analogue and digital outputs. It supports both rack mount and distributed installation.
The fibre-optic enabled modules and other I/O modules use the Dinrail mount, and can be daisy chained to the central CPU module, communicating over CANBUS/MODBUS. Distributed modules can also be directly connected to a datalogger, for example CAN-Logger, while Rugged Connect is an advanced software package available for data visualisation, configuration and reporting.
Like other Rugged products, the R501 can be used in a wide range of applications. These are not limited to Aviation, Automotive, Cryogenic, Battery Bank/Racks, Medical, Semiconductor, Utility, and R&D. It's wide measuring range (-271 °C to +300 °C), high precision and complete immunity to RFI, EMI, microwave radiation, and high voltages make it an obvious choice for temperature measurement in extreme conditions. See more via the Video tab above.
The run length from sensor to monitor can be several kilometres without any effect on the accuracy of the measurement results.
Technical data for the monitors and sensors can be downloaded as a PDF from the Documents tab above.
